Consultancy Project

The Consultancy Project is a cornerstone of the Executive MBA at BI Norwegian Business School, accounting for 30 ECTS - one third of the entire programme.

Turning Knowledge into Impact

Designed to bridge theory and practice, the project allows participants to work closely with an organisation on a strategic issue drawn from areas such as growth, transformation, innovation, operations, digitalisation, customer experience, or sustainability. It offers participants the opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and insights gained througout the EMBA to solve a substantial, real-world business challenge. Whether the challenge comes from a multinational corporation, a scale-up, a public-sector organisation or the participant’s own company, the focus is on delivering actionable, evidence-based solutions with measurable impact.

Participants will conduct in-depth analyses, apply relevant models and frameworks, and critically assess the feasibility and implications of their recommendations - both for the organisation and its broader environment. The project promotes high-level strategic thinking, problem-solving under uncertainty, and cross-functional collaboration.

Collaborative problem-solving

Conducted in teams, the Consultancy Project offers a hands-on experience in managing complex business problems through collaborative, non-hierarchical work - an essential capability in today’s dynamic and globalised business world. Participants are supported by a faculty advisor who ensures academic quality and strategic relevance, as well as by a company representative who provides practical guidance and alignment with organisational goals.

This experience also creates powerful career opportunities. Many participants use the Consultancy Project to deepen their expertise in a particular domain, gain visibility with senior executives, or explore a new industry. Others focus on strategic initiatives within their own organisations - such as M&A, process optimisation, digital transformation, or market expansion - leveraging the project to test bold ideas with academic and practical support.

In several cases, the Consultancy Project has opened doors to new roles, new industries, and new strategic directions - making it not just a highlight of the programme, but a catalyst for career evolution.
